Author and artist Susan Branch's much anticipated 13th book, A FINE R0MANCE is a full color personal travel journal, a selective guide full of charm and humor, and practical ideas for a delightful trip through the English countryside, including Sussex and Kent, the Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the Cotswolds.
Susan Branch's newest book, "A FINE ROMANCE ~ Falling in love with the English Countryside" is a hand-written and watercolored personal travel journal of Susan's six-day transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 and two-month ramble through hedgerows, tearooms, and wildflower meadows touring the castles and cottages of rural England. There are over 300 full color photos, countless illustrations, quotes, and even a few recipes; it's a travel guide that includes book and movie lists and watercolored maps. Susan added an interactive Appendix available on her website that includes links to travel-everything, and videos she took while on the trip. (You can virtually drive across the Yorkshire Dales, visit Rosemary Verey's garden, step out on deck of the Queen Mary II in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.) Travel with Susan as she braves the North Atlantic ... and visits the homes and gardens of her literary and artistic heroes including Beatrix Potter, Vanessa Bell and Jane Austen. With lots of history, the Queen's Jubilee, and a touching love story to kick things off, it's a perfect book for all Downton Abbey Anglophiles and armchair travelers.

I want to go and do this exact same trip except I think I would gain at least 30 lbs!

Lovely, lovely book, filled with Susan Branch's trademark watercolors and hand-lettered text, that will leave you longing to visit the English countryside yourself. Can't get enough of Susan Branch books!

If you can't go on a trip to England, at least you can travel along with Susan Branch and her husband through this charming book filled with photos and sweet stories about their wanderings and adventures.

I found little of interest in this travel journal. The font was a handwritten style, which made it difficult to read with any kind of consistent flow. On top of that, the writing style was not one that would likely keep one's attention unless you were a relative or descendant of the author.

This graphic novel-travel diary of the English countryside is my favorite read thus far with the Adult Summer Reading program.

What can I say, Susan Branch and her husband, Joe, charmed me. And now I want to visit England again. They went by ship.

Imagine living on Martha's Vineyard then going on the Queen Mary 2 and living in England for 2 months. Sweet sweet book.

Enjoyable--esp. the pictures & artwork!--but slightly inaccurate & a little too sentimental for my taste. (I prefer Marjolein Bastien.) Branch also gushes too much. She didn't go to the Brontes' Haworth!--but maybe she only went to National Trust properties?

As a confirmed Anglophile, this book is my dream. A diary of her 2 month trip to England.
