“If three characters were good in Big Little Lies, nine are even better in Nine Perfect Strangers.” —Lisa Scottoline, The New York Times Book Review

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Big Little Lies

Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? In Liane Moriarty’s latest page-turner, nine perfect strangers are about to find out...

Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer – or should she run while she still can?

It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.

Combining all of the hallmarks that have made her writing a go-to for anyone looking for wickedly smart, page-turning fiction that will make you laugh and gasp, Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers once again shows why she is a master of her craft.

Liane Moriarty is great at quirky characters and fast-paced dialog. The very odd health retreat setting of this title made for an off-beat read.

9 strangers at a health spa + author of Big Little Lies = an intriguing read

An enjoyable read, especially for how it pokes fun at the wellness industry and what we think will make us happy. Maybe too many characters, but while it doesn't expand your horizons, it does wrap up well.

The plot dragged for half of the novel, and then everything afterward felt unrealistic and rushed.

was a bit of a different book but I finished it and enjoyed it mostly.

I thought this book was preposterous and disappointing. Would not recommend it.

This is another hilarious story from Liane Moriarty. I LOVE her characters and the situations they get themselves into--checked this out hoping for funny and I wasn't disappointed at all. Had me laughing aloud a lot. These 9 strangers all come to a wellness retreat in the middle of nowhere, Australia, where the woman in charge has her own ideas of wellness. The character I enjoyed most was Frances, who has trouble even getting in the gate of the place. Some of her memorable quotes: "One must placate large strange men in the middle of nowhere."
"How was she going to cope for ten days without instant answers to idle questions?" That last quote reminded me just how much we rely on our phones and computers to give us fast answers. Almost all the characters are skillfully sketched out for us, like Jessica, who is enjoying her post-lottery-winning lifestyle and couldn't understand why her husband didn't like the way she was spending money to improve herself.
"She couldn't shake the feeling that if she didn't record this moment on her phone then it wasn't really happening, it didn't count, it wasn't real life." Jessica felt that "the money made her instantly more intelligent and beautiful and stylish."
Moriarty does interpersonal antics marvelously and usually quite comedic, except when they shouldn't be.
