This is my first experience in the manga genre, and it was recommended to me based on other books I read. Thus far, Deathnote is incredibly interesting from the very beginning. The characters are very well developed, and the story is written in such a way that I was feeling a lot of the same emotions as the characters themselves. It's a great choice for someone new to the genre.

This is an incredibly complex, rich chess game of an anime. It's rare to see characters that are highly, equally intelligent try to figure each other out -- and each is at least two moves ahead at all times. And they're also young, so they don't have a lot of perspective. The costs keep changing, and the idea of what is a victory keeps changing -- rather like life. If you don't think anime can be serious, this one will change your mind.

This is show you will never forget. It is absolutely amazing. The characters are dynamic, and the plot is smartly crafted out. It shows how irresponsible people will crumble under responsibility, and how power can make you go insane.

Violence: There's not so much blood as there is just violence in general. Hundreds of people are killed, but mostly with heart attacks
