There are a few plot holes (How'd he get back up that cliff?) but overall this is a fascinating anthropological excursion into the deep past. Customs, clothing, weapons, and language all seem authentic, and the cinemetography almost beggars parallel. (The language is based on "Proto-Nostratic" and/or "Proto-Dené–Caucasian" -- theoretical ancient languages made by comparing reconstructed ancestors of today's languages spoken in the region where the movie takes place.) The dog (an actual wolf-dog!) is almost as good an actor as the humans. This movie is also an ice-age version of "The Revenant" (though slightly less bloody), so fans of that movie may like this as well.

Safe, interesting, entertaining, and clever. It's refreshing seeing something remotely original, but also genuinely well made and acted.

The high point is on-going in this film: the great cinematography. It captures well the environment of a pristine, yet unspoiled planet of 20,000 years ago. Well acted, a great story, great for the kids to watch also despite the brutality of life depicted in those days. The wolf dog should have gotten an Oscar. Worth watching more than once.

Not 100% accurate historically or ecologically, but 100% interesting to watch. Very well made movie. Good directing.

Directed by Albert Hughes in 2018, this American historical drama depicts the adventure of a young hunter who encounters and befriends an injured dire wolf during the last ice age.
Beautifully filmed and action-packed, this drama appears captivating and awe-inspiring.
If you're a dog lover, this is a must-see.

What a total surprise this film was. I did not expect it to be so compelling. No English is spoken and I was expecting the prehistoric peoples to be grunting and ignorant as they are often depicted that way in film. Not here. It has brutality but it also has tenderness and love between human and animal. I say take a chance on this little gem. I am not someone who likes to watch movies more than once or twice. This one I will watch again in time.

A movie that needs no dialogue. Great visuals depicts man’s enslavement, excuse me, bond with dogs.

You could have called this The Paleolithic Revenant as it is almost the same story as the 2015 movie with Leo Decaprio. It is just as beautiful to look in creating this overwhelming slightly alien environment with wide vistas, megafauna and brilliant nighttime cosmos looking down on our early ancestors. It is also just as completely ridiculous as the Revenant in what the hero can go through and still survive. (eg Don't walk through blinding blizzards that cause swift hypothermia)

The big pull in the story is not the cute factor of puppies but the fascinating origin of the friendship between two species that has endured for 35,000(?)years. The dog is the only large carnivore that humans have successfully domesticated to become a very formidable team in human survival and success though I don't think it happened like in Alpha. It is amazing how well dogs can read our gestures and pay attention to us in a level of communication that were millenniums in forming. We have even evolved together as dogs have the ability to breakdown starch(unlike wolves which cannot) like us after the advent of agriculture. The power of that first friendship may be lost in prehistory but resonates strongly on screen especially in the end story twist and closing Kubrickian 2001 like shot.

Incredibly harrowing, heartwarming and inspiring epic! The story of Keda, a young warrior growing from boy to man. When Keda is left for dead, far from his tribe and his father nowhere to be seen, the young innocent boy must grow up quickly, becoming the warrior his tribal leader father wants him to be and find his home alone across a barren snow-filled landscape dotted with nothing but danger, the sky and the wolf he isn't certain won't just kill him or save both their lives.
